Here we outline the T&C's for our Hire at Lowther Castle service...
Our bikes and equipment are hired in good condition and are in full working order. Before leaving the hire centre, please satisfy yourself that the equipment meets your needs and skills and that you are happy to proceed with the hire.
The equipment hired is only for routes intended for the bikes, please respect their limitations. You are welcome to take the bikes on a cycle route of your choice and are not limited to the Lowther Estate trails. It is your responsibility to ensure the bike is suitable for your planned route.
You accept complete responsibility during the period of hire for the safe custody of the equipment and for any loss, theft or damage (howsoever caused). You are responsible for the security of the bicycle and must lock it to a fixed object whenever unattended and keep the equipment safeguarded at all times. You must return the equipment by the specified time and date. Any loss, theft, damage or accident should be notified to the hire company immediately and in the case of theft or accident to the nearest police station too.
Your booking is accepted on the understanding you accept the risks and hazards inherent in cycling either on the road or off the road, adverse weather conditions, and poor condition of roads and off-road trails.
You undertake not to misuse the equipment and to return it with all the accessories in the same condition as it was when received by you (ordinary wear and tear accepted.)
In event of any damage during the hire period, howsoever caused, the hirer agrees to pay the cost of repair or damage. If a bike or equipment is lost during the hire period, howsoever caused, the hirer agrees to pay the cost of replacement at replacement cost price.
Insurance to cover yourself against accident or loss is available, at additional cost, at the point of hire. We strongly recommend this insurance is taken out.
In the event of a breakdown, other than the result of your misuse, we will use reasonable endeavors to make roadside repairs or provide a replacement bike. However, puncture repair during hire is not a service provided free of charge.
We have equipped each bike with spare tube, pump, puncture repair kit and leaflets on puncture repair are available. Call outs for puncture repair will be charged at £30 each.
You accept that cycling has risks and confirm that you are a competent cyclist. You should not ride if you are in ill health, have a disability likely to affect ability to cycle, or your eyesight is not up to the standard required by a road driving test. Do not ride under the influence of alcohol, strong medication or other drugs. It is strongly advised that you wear a helmet and use other appropriate safety equipment and clothing.
Cycling carries with it an element of risk of injury. The hirer indemnifies Arragons Cycle Hire against any injuries sustained which are beyond its control.
The liability of Arragons Cycle Hire is limited to the equipment provided, the hirer will satisfy themselves that everything is in full working order before leaving the premises.
Hire fees are to be paid for at the time of booking. Bikes are only confirmed once payment has been made.
If bikes are not returned by the specified time and date, the cost of hire shall be charged on a pro rata basis until return. Any late return, replacement or repair costs or insurance excess payments will be chargeable.
Reservations are non-refundable. However, we will be happy to transfer your hire within 30 days if you are able to give more than 24 hour notice of the cancellation. At Arragons Cycle Hire discretion & only with an excess of 72 hour notice, a partial refund may be awarded and £20 admin charge will be applied. All payments are to be made by either credit or debit card. Cash cannot be taken. This is in accordance with our insurance requirements.
We have various periods for hire: From full day to multiple day hire. Full day is from the hours of 10:00 to 16:00 Bikes must be returned within the agreed period to avoid additional charges being imposed.
We require any child under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. We reserve the right to refuse a hire booking if we believe the main hirer to be under the age of 18 and is unable to prove otherwise. There will be no refund as the terms of our booking will have been agreed, and this point is clearly stated on the booking form.
The hiring of any equipment will be deemed to be acceptance of these conditions and agreement to be bound by them.
Please follow the Highway Code. Do not ride on pavements, against traffic, or more than two abreast.
Do not run red lights.
Be courteous to pedestrians and other road users.
Ride responsibly: do not attempt any manoeuvres beyond your skill level or the bike’s specific capabilities.
You accept full responsibility if you ignore any of the above and we are not liable for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property that results. Save in respect of liability for personal injury or death resulting from our negligence, the hire company’s liability to you whether in contract, tort (including negligence),breach of statutory duty or otherwise is limited to the cost of hire. You agree to indemnify us against any liabilities, costs, expenses, damages and losses arising out of or in connection with the death or injury to any person or any damage to property resulting from your hire or use of the equipment. We advise that you do not ride without personal and third party liability insurance.
Any property left at the Hire Centre or brought to the hire centre from the trials will be kept for 30 days. If it is unclaimed after that time, items will be disposed of, or given to charity.
You agree to hire the bicycle and accessories specified above (together, “equipment”),to pay the cost of hire, and you accept the terms on this form. Please retain a copy of this form for identification purposes.
Finally GDPR! We need to retain the details of your hire on file for our insurance and security but we will never share your information with any third party. If you would like us to limit the information we have on file, please speak to a member of staff.
